Thanks for sharing, Joel! Any shareable opinions on Vanhoozer’s recent Mere Christian Hermeneutics along the TIS scholarly developments?

Hey, Kyle. Yes, vintage KJV, in all respects, and well worth a read. I’ll have more to say about it in due course. I don’t include it here as it’s not a “first read,” I think. :-)

That is certainly fair. I agree “Mere Christian Hermeneutics” is not a “first read” sort of work into TIS. I appreciate the selection of works you posted here as well as the journal articles! I read “Mere Christian Hermeneutics” for a doctoral class this past spring, and I’ll be reading through it again this fall for another, I believe. Overall I enjoyed the work; Vanhoozer gives a healthy reminder for the importance of one’s reading culture and provides an interesting perspective on figural reading. I’ll keep my eyes out for a future post from you about it, but no pressure or rush! :)

Your comment, ”I read [it] for a doctoral class”—that’s about right! Were I teaching my PhD seminar at Fuller Seminary on Biblical Theology and Theological Hermeneutics, undoubtedly I would be including it among the readings.
